About this experience
Two Unforgettable Experiences in One Private Excursion
From young lemon sharks swimming in the shallows to the unusual sensation of floating inside a volcanic crater, discover two remarkable sides of Sal Island on one relaxed outing.
This private excursion combines Shark Bay and Pedra de Lume Salt Lake, with your own local guide and private transport throughout. It is ideal for travellers who want to enjoy these two experiences without joining a longer island tour.
Meet the Lemon Sharks of Shark Bay
Your first stop is Shark Bay, also known as Parda Bay, on Sal Island’s eastern coast. Its shallow coastal waters provide a natural nursery for juvenile lemon sharks.
After an introduction from the local water guide, put on your water shoes and walk across the rocky seabed into the shallows. Watch for young lemon sharks swimming nearby and learn about their natural environment.
This is a wildlife observation experience on foot in shallow water, rather than a swimming or snorkeling activity. Guests who prefer to remain on the shore can enjoy the coastal scenery, although seeing the sharks from the beach may be more difficult.
Float Inside a Volcanic Crater
Continue to Pedra de Lume, where salt ponds spread across the floor of an extinct volcanic crater. Discover how salt production helped shape the history of the island and take in the striking landscape around you.
If you wish, enter the salt lake and experience its remarkable buoyancy. The highly salty water allows you to float effortlessly, creating a peaceful and memorable moment in this unusual setting.
Guests who prefer not to enter the lake can enjoy the views and explore the surroundings with their guide.
